Support Services Bureau

The Special Operations Bureau is commanded by Deputy Chief Theo Glover and oversees the S.W.A.T. Team, Bomb Unit, Mobile Command Unit and the newly organized Field Force Unit and Dignitary Protection Team.
Major event planing, coordination re-occuring special events and special projects consist of the majority of duties of the Support Services Bureau. Typical assignments are attending strategic meetings andpreparing operational plans for these events. Developing contingency plans for crowd control, crime problems and traffic issues are required for major events. Planning logistical requirements of personnel and the procurement of equipment and supplies isneeded for the proper prepartaion of each event. This also includes coordinating with other agencies affected by the major event and reviewing any mutual aid agreements. Examples of major events are the 4th of July, "On the Waterfront" Musical Festival and the Chicago/Rockford International Airport "Airfest".
The Support Services Bureau also assists with emergency planning for local and federal agencies located in the jurisdiction of Rockford. This consists of coordinating the Department's response to emergencies at their facilities. The Support Service Bureau has participated in emergency drills for the Winnebago County Health Department's "Operation Avalon" and the United States Post Office "Bio-Hazard Detection System Response Drill".
Traffic Unit
The Traffic Unit is responsible for the reduction of traffic crashes through traffic law enforcement and traffic crash investigations.
