08-09 Head Start Annual Report
April 2010 - Head Start is a comprehensive child development program providing services in various locations in Winnebago County to low income children ages birth to five and their families. Head Start has the overall objective of breaking the cycle of poverty by preparing children to be effective learners and by assisting families to achieve greater economic, social and personal self sufficiency in support of their children.  Early Head Start provides comprehensive services for pregnant women and children ages birth to three and their families.  Home visiting services, socialization groups and a child care option are offered.  Head Start provides a quality pre-school program with a curriculum that strengthens initiative and self-reliance in children, including healthy school meals and bus transportation.  Both programs include mental health services, special needs services, family social services and parent involvement opportunities.
